Toby Keith makes an exclusive Lake Tahoe appearance for his “America’s Toughest Tour” at Harveys Outdoor Arena. Keith’s latest album, That Don’t Make Me A Bad Guy, got rave reviews across the country when it was released in the fall of 2008. Two singles, “She Never Cried in Front of Me” and “God Love Her,” both went to number one on the country charts. Characterizing Keith’s fourteenth studio album as a breakthrough may be hyperbolic. After all, here is an artist whose music has sold more than 25 million albums in this decade alone, untold millions of concert tickets and formed the basis for an entertainment empire that includes movies, restaurants, a record label and much more. A new album is in the works and scheduled for release later this year.
Toby Keith first broke out into the country music fans nationwide with 1993’s “Shoulda Been A Cowboy.” This number one smash hit paved the way for three more hits, “Wish I Didn’t Know Now,” “A Little Less Talk and Lot More Action,” and “He Ain’t Worth Missing.” The ensuing years saw several number one releases and multi-platinum sales.
Keith’s next single release “Courtesy of The Red, White and Blue, (The Angry American)” was written in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The song became an emotional rallying cry in the war on terror, and the title was painted on tank cannons and warplanes during the hunt for Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. “Courtesy” helped the 2002 release of Unleashed to a number one country debut, and was followed by the hits “Who’s Your Daddy?” and “Beer For My Horses,” a duet with Willie Nelson.
